Hilding Anders Switzerland Nominated for the Green Business Award 2026
Hilding Anders Switzerland AG has been nominated for the prestigious Green Business Award 2026 for its “happy 2nd life” initiative — a circular solution that gives returned mattresses a new purpose while keeping valuable materials in the loop.
The Green Business Award, one of Switzerland’s most recognised sustainability awards, has named Hilding Anders Switzerland AG among 30 nominated companies this year. Now in its eighth edition, the award celebrates companies that demonstrate sustainability and commercial success are not in conflict, but complementary. This year marks a milestone for the award: for the first time, nominees are evaluated in two separate categories. Hilding Anders Switzerland AG competes in the SME/Corporate category, which honours established businesses that have fundamentally transformed their operations around sustainability.
“We are thrilled to receive this recognition. Being nominated for the Green Business Award is a testament to the team’s commitment to building sustainability into the very heart of how we operate — not as an add-on, but as a core part of our business,” said Jens Fischer, Director Marketing, Development & E-Commerce at Hilding Anders Switzerland AG.
Closing the Loop on Mattress Returns
At the heart of the nomination is “happy 2nd life”, a structured circular process built around the brand’s 100-night trial offer. Under this programme, customers who return a mattress within the trial period do not simply send it to waste incineration. Instead, every returned mattress enters a systematic refurbishment process: covers are hygienically cleaned, and mattresses are assessed and prepared for resale, transparently labelled as second-life products.
What makes the model particularly notable is how it has been built on existing supply chain structures, minimising the need for new infrastructure while delivering meaningful environmental impact. Instead of downcycling or disposal, the loop is closed at the highest possible level of value creation: the product itself. This keeps valuable resources in use for longer, avoids waste, and gives customers access to quality products at accessible price points – a circular solution that works for people and planet alike.
A Partnership Rooted in Social Responsibility
For the cleaning and refurbishment of returned mattresses and pillow covers, happy has partnered with ARGO Laundry in Davos, a sheltered workshop that provides up to 80 jobs and apprenticeships for people with disabilities, including on-site living support and assistance with daily routines. The collaboration reflects Hilding Anders Switzerland’s broader conviction that sustainability must encompass social responsibility alongside environmental impact.
“The partnership with ARGO is something we are genuinely proud of. It shows that sustainability is not limited to ecological impact but can also include meaningful social engagement. In our case, building a circular economy and creating valuable opportunities for people go hand in hand and strengthen each other,” added Jens Fischer.
Part of a Bigger Commitment
The happy second life initiative sits within a wider sustainability strategy at Hilding Anders Switzerland, guided by self-imposed Ecodesign principles derived from EU standards. These include the use of EvoPoreHRC® foam in mattress cores, a high-performance material that requires 30% less raw material than conventional foams while offering superior durability, as well as design choices that enable easy dismantling, recyclability and the use of recycled raw materials where appropriate. Short transport routes through production and partners in Switzerland reduce the carbon footprint across the supply chain, while a 10-year product guarantee reflects the conviction that longevity is among the most important sustainability criteria of all.
Hilding Anders Switzerland is also a founding member of the Swiss Mattress Alliance, a cross-industry initiative working to establish responsible recycling pathways and a functioning circular economy for mattresses in Switzerland.
"This nomination reflects what we believe at Hilding Anders: that responsible business is good business. We are proud to see our Swiss team recognised for turning a customer promise, the 100-night trial, into a genuine circular economy solution," said Alexander Roswall, Head of Group Communications at Hilding Anders International.
Finalists will be announced on 8 July 2026, with the award ceremony taking place on 3 September 2026 in Lucerne. Fingers crossed for the team!
